"Explorations"

by Graeme Shaw

Though any piece of art can be interpreted differently by different viewers, I strive to make the power of my images in their clarity, not in their ability to raise confusing issues or a myriad of  questions. My paintings are my attempt at answers to visual ( actual and mental) stimuli I have been impacted with.

For me art is about visual, not rhetorical communication. Art (in my view), fails to be art when it requires any verbal explanation whatsoever for the viewer to understand what the artist in the main, is trying to communicate.

I am therefore not overly interested in esoteric, idiosyncratic or self absorbed topics that most people will not understand or ever relate to except tangentially or paradoxically. Painting images on huge, uplifting and inspiring themes that speak to anyone, no matter who they are or where we come from, is my passion. Nothing is more encouraging than to watch a person become engaged in a painting I have done and then turn and relate to me  precisely what I was trying to speak to their mind and hearts. If it has truly encouraged and uplifted them, well, I like that kind of communicating.

All works are available for sale prior to the show opening.

"The North, a Reflection"

by Helene Croft

Living a Passion. A mix of hues and shapes.
Seeing and believing a dream, reality.
Bringing home - viewing through my eyes, skies, space and colors.
Transparency.
Living a Passion.
Letting go....giving.

"NEW WORK"

by Franklin Sinanan

My work allows me to release my emotions and to draw the viewer into the push - pull of life, love - hate, violence - compassion, good - evil. Through my work I become transparent - almost naked. Where nudity only shows my exterior, my art reveals the total me, inside and out - the real me! I'm not a news junky, nor do I read any lofty novels, but I absorb the world around me and with a non-religious spirituality I regurgitate my emotions into the work. For me, religion and politics are difficult to talk about, but when I channel it into my work it seems to come alive and mean something. I paint about everyday stuff: abuse, relationships, anger........ Often my work offends people. I'm always surprised when people think my work evil, because I do it out of love for life.

"Diversity of Brushstroke"
New works

by Jean Pederson

My traditional practice includes referential imagery of people, still life, landscape and non-referential imagery. Layering of various media offers me an assortment of possibilities; quality of edge, line and texture all play a role within my imagery. Although well known for my mastery of watercolors, mixed media has become an important vehicle for my creative expression.

New works

by Rolf Krohn

Rolf Krohn continues to explore the use of color and shape in his latest landscapes and figurative work. Traveling through Northern Saskatchewan to photograph those colors and shapes that interest him, each painting is not a true representation of each shot but a compilation of a variety of locations that evolve through creative thought. The figurative paintings are a result of the visual perusal of the human figure in the studio and attempt to glean the relationship between artist and model.

"From Along the Far  Reaches"
by Graeme Shaw

All the work I create presently, actually comes from "the far reaches ".
This refers in part to the works subject matter, but more to the fact that what is now being created has originated from a rarefied place, decades down the road in my artistic adventure.  I am reaching and pushing through into places only achieved by years of experience, places that were impossible to get to as a younger artist.

30 New works
by David Langevin

Trees and rocks, water and sky, mountains and snow, these elements,
combined with distinctive painting methods and an audacious style, have
characterized the paintings of this well known artist.

David Langevin's dramatic renditions of the Canadian wilderness and his
bold 'tree portraits' have become almost as familiar as the subject they
depict.  His art is represented in galleries across the country and has
inspired many nature lovers, artists, and of course, collectors.
Moreover, his striking use of light and unique painting methods have creating a
captivating vision of this country's landscape that has even influenced the way many
art lovers and collectors of his work view those same subjects;  a hike in
the forest or the mountains is never the same for those who have come to
know Langevin's imagery.

David will host a lecture on March 9, 2007
at Birchwood Gallery from 6 to 10 pm
